Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security method that requires users to verify their identity using two different authentication factors before gaining access to an account or application. In addition to a password, the second factor can be a one-time verification code, an authentication app, biometric verification, or another supported method.
Two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of account security. Even if a password is compromised, an unauthorized person may still be unable to access the account without the second authentication factor. For mobile applications that store personal information, payment-related data, or other sensitive content, 2FA can be an important part of protecting user accounts.
A user enters their email address and password to log in to a mobile app. The application then requests a one-time verification code before allowing access to the account.
