In-App Payment

What is an In-App Payment?

An in-app payment is a payment made directly within a mobile application for products, services, bookings, subscriptions, or other purchases. Depending on the type of transaction and platform requirements, a mobile app can use an integrated payment provider or the payment systems provided by Apple and Google. In-app payment functionality allows users to complete a transaction without manually contacting the business or switching to a separate purchasing process.

Why it matters

In-app payments make the customer journey more convenient by combining product or service selection and payment within the mobile experience. For businesses, payment functionality can support e-commerce, online booking, subscriptions, paid services, and other monetization models. When creating a mobile app, businesses also need to consider payment security, platform rules, transaction processing, and the type of products or services being sold.

Example

A customer uses a mobile app to book a service, chooses an available date and time, and pays for the booking directly through the application. The integrated payment functionality processes the transaction and allows the business to combine booking and payment in one digital flow.
