Web App

What is a Web App?

A web app is an application that runs through a web browser and is usually accessed using a URL rather than installed from an app store. Web apps can provide interactive functionality similar to traditional software, but they are primarily delivered through web technologies and generally depend on a browser and an internet connection.

Why it matters

Understanding the difference between a web app and a native mobile app helps businesses choose the right format for their product. Web apps can be accessed across different devices through a browser, while native apps are installed on a device and can provide deeper integration with mobile operating systems and device features. The appropriate approach depends on the required functionality, user experience, offline capabilities, and distribution strategy.

Example

A company provides customers with an online service that they access by opening a URL in a smartphone browser. If the company later creates a native mobile app, customers can install it on their devices and access functionality designed specifically for the mobile operating system.
